There is no question of alliance with any political party including BJD.” Other leaders like BJP president Manmohan Samal, opposition leader Jaynarayan Mishra, party’s national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh, central observer Sunil Bansal and assistant observer Vijaypal Singh Tomar also attended the meeting.

BJD supported BJP in Parliament
There was speculation of a possible alliance between the two parties after BJD supported BJP on the opposition’s no-confidence motion in Parliament in August. In August, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met on the sidelines of official events, further fueling speculation over a possible partnership. There was an alliance between the two parties between 2000 and 2009.

According to the report of news agency PTI, BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra said that there will be a direct fight between BJD and BJP in the elections as Congress has lost its ground.

Mishra said, “We will work to ensure that BJP gets 50 percent of the votes.” He said that BJP will contest elections on all 147 assembly seats and 21 Lok Sabha seats of Odisha. He said, “This time our focus will be on winning assembly seats which will ultimately help in winning Lok Sabha seats. BJP has set a target of 50 percent votes at each polling station.”
